The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 37:23)
It was World War II in Europe. Joe’s duty was to aid the Captain of his company. The company had advanced a little today. It was no easy task to prepare for the night. Joe had just finished digging two trenches for his and the Captain’s bed rolls for the night. The bed rolls were in place and Joe was ready to hit the sack.
A super secret message came from Italian headquarters which had to be carried to the flank of the adjacent company. The Captain said, “I’m sorry Joe, but you are the only one I can spare to carry this message.’
Joe started off with dragging steps grumbling as he went. When he returned he found an enemy mortar attack had made a direct hit on his bed roll in the trench. But for the grace of God calling him to an unsavory duty, he would have died that night in that bed roll. Joe lived to thank God for saving his life.
How safe a Christian should feel, knowing God has numbered our steps. God has a way and ways we cannot see, but God is there to guide our steps. –Amy Bolding
