Jesus came teaching the way back to God by using parables in hopes that everyone would understand why He came to earth. He used examples from everyday life to enhance their understanding, but sometimes they still failed to get it. Even the disciples who were with him everyday often failed to get it.
I plan to preach next Sunday about some of Jesus’s parables, and I will pose the question Jesus asked His disciples, “Do you really understand?” One thing which hinders understanding is a closed mind. Some folk simply refuse to open their minds to the possibility that what they have decided is true could possibly be false.
By choosing to understand and obey only the Holy Scriptures which support one’s own view point is dangerous for one’s immortal soul. The Bible must be taken and understood as a whole book. That is why daily Bible reading and study are critically important in discovering the truth.
Thought for the day:
“Trust one who has gone through it.” –Virgil
O Wisdom on High, by You the meek are guided in judgment,
and light rises up in darkness for the godly.
Grant us, in all doubts and uncertainties,
the grace to ask what You would have us do,
that we may be saved from all false choices,
and that in Your light we may see light,
and in your straight path may not stumble;
through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
