A Prayer for Personal Fellowship
A Prayer for Personal Fellowship
by Reverend William Casto
Our Father who art in heaven, we thank thee that thou art upon earth too. We thank thee for thy many revelations to us and our privilege to fellowship with thee. If we go into the fields and forests thou art there, the deep valleys and high hills declare thy majesty. When we behold the heavens we see thy glory. If we go down into the sea, the great mystery of thyself fills us with awe. The barren desert gives an opportunity to know thee. If we go into the crowd of the city thou art there. If we go into the home, thou art there in the sacrifice of the mother’s love, the devotion of the father’s strength and in the innocence of the child’s play. Dear Lord, we cannot escape thy presence. Even when alone and solitary we hear thy still small voice, and feel thy presence. We then are aware that thou dost abide in us and that it is in thee that we live, move, and have our being. We most devoutly thank thee for this constant fellowship.
Grant to us a more perfect knowledge of thy will, that we may worthily serve thee and reflect thy presence in us. Help us to serve others as thou dost serve us. Help us to forgive others as freely as thou dost forgive us. May all thy creatures be the objects of thy love and sacrifice. May we have strength of character to be a kind shepherd to all mankind as thou art our Shepherd. We give thanks for this fellowship of service and the joy that it brings to us.
Dear Father if there are any here who are deprived of this joy because of them being tempted, deliver them from that temptation, and restore them to the joy of service. We pray that thou wouldst forgive us all, for we are unprofitable servants, and possibly have disappointed thee. Remove from us all guilt of sin and sense of shame that we may have self confidence and be worthy of thy trust. May thy grace purify our hearts that thy passion may abide in us, that we may do thy will and bring thy kingdom upon the whole earth. AMEN
